August 10, 2009 - There is a growing movement among webdevelopers to get rid of Internet Explorer Version 6. IE6 was originally released in 2001 and became a very commonly used browser. However, it has become entrenched and now threatens to hold back progress as IE6 cannot handle some of the new exiting things developers have in store for the future.
Issues with IE6
- Speed - Modern Browsers are generally faster than IE6. Developers often have to degrade our sites so that they will work acceptably with IE6
- Security - IE6 is not known for its security. Modern browsers are much better at protecting your information when you are online.
- Stability - IE6 is often unstable, especially when visiting newer, more modern websites.
- Features - Modern Browsers have a lot more features (integrated searches, tabbed browsing, etc) that make surfing easier and more enjoyable
- Development Time - By far, we developers spend more time making things work in IE6 versus any other browser. This makes web development more costly
Even today, many people are still using this old and outdated browser. This limits the web development community from creating faster, better, and more powerful websites.
What can be done? The answer is simple - UPGRADE:
We highly recommend Firefox 3.5 as the best web browser today. IE8, Safari and Google Chrome are also very good choices.
